In the process, he must find Zeus’ missing lightning bolt in order to prove his innocence.
While the movie sticks relatively close to the book, there are some key differences. One of the most notable is that in the book, Percy Jackson’s friend Grover is a satyr (half-goat, half-human), while in the movie he is simply human. Additionally, in the book Annabeth Chase is Percy’s cousin, while in the movie she is his half-sister. However, these changes do not affect the overall plot of the story.

The Lightning Thief is a 2005 fantasy novel based on Greek mythology. It is the first young adult novel written by Rick Riordan and the first book in the Percy Jackson & The Olympians series. The novel chronicles the adventures of Percy Jackson as he discovers his true identity and sets out on a quest to prevent a war between the Greek gods.
The story follows Percy, a twelve-year-old boy who discovers that he is actually a demigod, the son of Poseidon, God of the Sea. Upon learning this, Percy is thrust into a world of gods and monsters as he attempts to stop a war from happening between Zeus and Poseidon. Along the way, Percy must find and return Zeus’ stolen lightning bolt in order to prevent the outbreak of war. The Lightning Thief was well-received by critics and became a bestseller upon its release. A film adaptation was released in 2010.
